According to CNN and NBC News, FBI counterintelligence officer Patrick Stephen Yarok was arrested on August 3 for allegedly stealing over $925,000 in cryptocurrency from accounts the agency was monitoring and linked to hostile nations including Russia and China. Court documents show Yarok made up to 12 transfers totaling approximately $925,000 to personal wallets, claiming the FBI had failed to adequately seize or disable the accounts. One month before his arrest, Yarok reportedly asked ChatGPT how to relocate to a European Union country with approximately $1 million in funds. The FBI has fired Yarok and stated it maintains the highest ethical standards for employees.
