The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs will cut nearly 30,000 jobs, far fewer than planned.
On July 8, Jin10 reported that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs stated on Monday that the scale of layoffs for this fiscal year will be reduced by two-thirds from the initial target, with approximately 30,000 layoffs instead of 80,000. At the beginning of the Trump administration, the agency employed about 480,000 people and is expected to continue employing nearly 450,000 staff in the fiscal year ending in September. According to Trump’s plan to downsize the federal government, the agency originally planned to reduce its workforce to just below 400,000. This proposal has drawn widespread condemnation from veterans' groups and Democrats.
