Tonight's U.S. CPI could get gold investors excited again. Why? Because one of the macro environments gold likes most is a weaker dollar and lower real interest rates.
If October inflation comes in below expectations, markets may think the Fed has more room to cut rates in the future. If Treasury yields also fall, gold could get fresh upside momentum. After all, gold doesn't pay wages or interest, but its appeal often rises in a low-interest-rate environment.
BTC could also see sentiment improve. As a highly volatile risk asset, Bitcoin is very sensitive to liquidity expectations, and rising rate-cut expectations could encourage funds to flow back in.
In U.S. stocks, tech stocks could be beneficiaries, as financing costs and pressure from discounting future cash flows may ease.
Of course, if CPI comes in hot, gold may not be immune. A stronger dollar and rising real yields could weigh on gold prices, while BTC and U.S. stocks could also face pressure.
But remember, gold also has safe-haven appeal. If markets are simultaneously worried about economic growth and geopolitical risks, gold prices could move differently from what traditional interest-rate logic would suggest.
Whether gold shines tonight depends not just on the inflation figures, but also on whether Treasury yields cooperate. $SPCX
