Tonight’s U.S. CPI is about to be released, and these three familiar players in financial markets—BTC, U.S. stocks, and gold—are once again about to compete for capital.
First, BTC. It is most focused on global liquidity and risk appetite. If inflation cools and expectations for rate cuts rise, Bitcoin may attract capital again. However, if it has already rallied in advance, beware of a “sell the news” reaction.
Next, U.S. stocks. Nasdaq tech stocks in particular are quite sensitive to interest rate changes. Moderate inflation could ease market concerns about high interest rates and improve the valuation environment for growth stocks; hotter inflation could prompt investors to reassess whether stock prices are too expensive.
Finally, gold. It is influenced by both the dollar and real yields, and also has safe-haven appeal. If inflation cools and real yields fall, gold may benefit; but if geopolitical risks rise, gold may still attract safe-haven buying even as the dollar strengthens.
Therefore, there is no inevitable winner tonight. The performance of the three assets will also depend on market positioning beforehand, capital flows, and whether the data exceed expectations.
Truly smart investors don’t guess every number correctly; they think through their response before the numbers are released. After all, the market can go crazy, but your positions shouldn’t go crazy with it!$AMD
