Thursday’s sharp selloff in U.S. stocks left many investors questioning everything.
The Nasdaq fell 5.5%, AMD dropped more than 17%, Nvidia fell more than 9%, and the semiconductor index plunged about 12%. Yesterday, we were discussing how AI would change the world; today, we’re discussing how stock accounts change their balances.
But I think the market may not be rejecting AI—it may be recalculating what AI is really worth.
In the past, investors were willing to give companies higher valuations as soon as they heard the words “AI.” Now there’s a problem: data centers require huge capital expenditures, and power, land, cooling equipment, and financing costs all take money. If investment grows faster than profits materialize, valuations will naturally be discounted again.
So I don’t think now is the time to go all in on chip stocks.
By contrast, I’m paying closer attention to tech giants like Microsoft and Google, which have vast customer bases, software ecosystems, and steady cash flow. They can not only invest in AI but also sell it to customers and make money.
Consumer staples, utilities, and short-term Treasury bills are also worth considering as defensive options.
This selloff could be an opportunity, but an opportunity doesn’t mean buying today and making money tomorrow. #每周来晒 and #美股史诗级抛售
Truly smart investors don’t try to guess the bottom; they wait until others panic, then look for genuinely valuable assets.
