Who’s Afraid of the Storage Stock Sell-Off? AI Demand Hasn’t Disappeared—So Why Have SanDisk, Micron, and SK Hynix Suddenly Fallen Out of Favor?
The thing that has investors most confused has happened: AI is still advancing, data centers are still expanding, yet storage chips have suddenly fallen out of favor.
It’s like a restaurant that still has plenty of customers, but the owner discovers that stock investors have all canceled their subscriptions.
So what exactly happened?
First, the market is worried about AI capital spending. Although tech giants are investing heavily, investors are starting to ask: When will that money pay off? If AI commercialization falls short of expectations, upstream hardware orders could also be affected.
Second, storage prices can’t keep rising forever. The higher prices go, the more likely customers are to adjust their purchasing schedules, and manufacturers may also increase capital spending. Today’s supply shortage doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a shortage tomorrow.
Third, high valuations are also a problem. The stock market has a bad habit: if earnings grow 10%, it may demand 20% growth in the share price; even if earnings are excellent, the market may still punish a company if they fall short of expectations.
So, the declines in SanDisk, Micron, and SK Hynix don’t mean the investment thesis for the AI storage industry is over; rather, the market is starting to recalculate future profits.
Next, I’m watching three signals: whether storage prices stabilize, whether corporate orders continue, and whether next quarter’s earnings guidance is strong.
The AI story can be compelling, but in the end, it still comes down to earnings reports.
After all, the capital markets don’t charge admission for storytelling—they only care about the income statement. $AMD #Gate股票畅聊季
