The market had just breathed a sigh of relief, but the latest U.S. nonfarm payrolls data has reignited anxiety.
The U.S. added 165,000 nonfarm jobs in October, far more than the market expected. The strong jobs report has investors worried that the Fed may continue tightening policy.
Market bets on a December rate hike have reportedly climbed to 77.7%.
If expectations continue to rise, U.S. stocks and Bitcoin could both face renewed pressure.
Why?
Because a high-interest-rate environment means higher borrowing costs, and investors may reduce their exposure to riskier assets. Tech stocks and cryptocurrencies, in particular, tend to be sensitive to changes in market liquidity.
But it’s not that simple.
U.S. consumer confidence remains weak, while high prices continue to erode purchasing power. Economic data may look strong, but people’s lived experience may not be so optimistic.
This also leaves the Fed in a bind: policy that’s too loose could reignite inflation, while policy that’s too tight could put additional pressure on the economy.
For investors, the most important thing now is to watch inflation data, the labor market, and signals from the Fed.
Don’t panic just because the odds of a rate hike are rising, and don’t blindly turn bullish just because the economy is strong.
After all, markets can price in expectations ahead of time, but your account won’t reimburse losses in advance!$NVDA
