If you were given a sum of money right now and could choose only one of SanDisk, Micron, and SK Hynix, which would you pick?
This question is a bit like choosing a partner: SanDisk is passionate, Micron is more well-rounded, and SK Hynix is the technical type.
First, SanDisk. It focuses mainly on NAND flash and enterprise SSDs. AI data centers need large amounts of high-speed storage, so as demand grows, the company’s earnings could show considerable upside. But the risks are clear, too: NAND prices are highly cyclical, and when the market cools, earnings could come under pressure quickly.
Next, Micron. It has a presence in DRAM, HBM, and NAND, so it can benefit from both the AI-driven boom in high-speed memory and demand for data storage. Its business is relatively diversified, making it suitable for investors focused on long-term profitability.
Finally, SK Hynix. HBM is a key competitive advantage for the company, and the more powerful AI accelerators become, the more important the demand for high-bandwidth memory will be. However, it’s also worth considering how much of a valuation premium the market has already assigned to this advantage.
If I had to rank them for further research: Micron for stability, SK Hynix for HBM competitiveness, and SanDisk for high upside potential.
But this isn’t a buy ranking, let alone a leaderboard guaranteeing returns.
After all, buying stocks isn’t like picking the campus beauty queen; the best-looking one isn’t necessarily the best fit. Even a great company needs to come at a good price—otherwise, even an outstanding business can leave investors stuck holding the bag.$MU
