Many people use AI every day, but may not realize that every question they ask requires massive computing resources to support it.
OpenAI CFO Sarah Friar recently said the company would not change its data center investment plans because of the U.S. midterm elections.
Her remarks have once again put AI infrastructure in the market spotlight.
Competition in the AI industry has expanded from model capabilities to computing infrastructure. Chips, servers, data centers, energy supply, and network construction could all become important parts of the industry chain.
For investors, this means opportunities in the AI industry are not limited to model developers.
But it would also be wrong to assume that companies can generate stable profits simply by attaching an AI label. Data center construction requires huge investment, and operating costs, financing costs, electricity prices, and customer demand all affect returns.
The AI industry has enormous growth potential, but infrastructure investment still requires careful economic calculations.
After all, artificial intelligence can be very smart, but investment returns do not automatically become smart. $NVDA
