If gains make people fantasize about financial freedom, declines are there to make them face reality again.
On November 5, the U.S. stock market suddenly cooled, with the Nasdaq down 5.52%, the S&P 500 down 4.36%, and the Dow down 3.44%. Bitcoin fell about 6% along with them, briefly dropping below $76k. We thought the post-election rally would continue, but the market changed direction in the blink of an eye.
The question investors are wrestling with now is: Should they reduce their positions?
If they keep holding, they worry there could be an even bigger drop ahead; if they sell now, they fear the market will rebound as soon as they do. It feels like putting away your umbrella just before the downpour starts again.
In fact, reducing your position doesn’t necessarily mean you’re bearish, and buying the dip doesn’t necessarily mean you’re bullish. What matters is your own risk tolerance. If your position is already keeping you up at night, reducing risk may be more important than trying to predict the bottom.
After all, the ultimate goal of investing isn’t to predict the market correctly every day, but to stay in the game over the long term.
Would you take profits and play it safe, or keep waiting for a rebound?$AMD
