CRYPTO WEEKEND UPDATE 3 developments worth watching across the ecosystem.
There’s more happening in crypto than daily price movements From institutional ETF outflows to major blockchain upgrades, here’s what you should know this weekend.
1. Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs record over $540M in outflows
US spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs recorded more than $540 million in combined outflows on November 5.
Fidelity’s FBTC led Bitcoin ETF withdrawals with approximately $199.9 million, followed by BlackRock’s IBIT at $105 million. BlackRock’s Ethereum ETF, ETHA, also recorded around $75.2 million in outflows.
The withdrawals came amid broader weakness in technology stocks, with $BTC falling below $76,000.
This raises questions about whether institutional investors are simply reducing short-term risk or losing appetite for crypto exposure.
ETF flows will be worth watching in the coming days.
2.Ethereum’s Glamsterdam upgrade faces a delay
@ethereum developers have postponed the planned Glamsterdam activation on the Hoodi testnet following security concerns.
The issues involve EIP-8037 and EIP-8038, which introduce changes to Ethereum’s gas accounting system.
Security researchers identified potential compatibility risks that could affect existing smart contracts.
Developers are conducting further reviews rather than rushing the upgrade.
It’s a reminder that network security and compatibility matter just as much as shipping new features.
3. Zcash activates its NU7 upgrade
@zcash activated its NU7 network upgrade on November 5.
One major change reduces the target block time from 75 seconds to 25 seconds, meaning blocks are expected to arrive three times faster.
The upgrade also introduces a sustainability mechanism that allocates 60% of transaction fees to a public reserve and 40% to miners.
However, approximately 12,224 ZEC in the legacy Sprout pool became unspendable following the upgrade.
For a privacy-focused network, this is a significant technical development with implications for performance and long-term sustainability.
The bigger picture
Bitcoin is facing institutional outflows, Ethereum is prioritising security, and Zcash is making major changes to its network.
While price action gets most of the attention, developments like these help shape the industry’s future.
Which of these three stories are you watching most closely?
