When the stock market experiences significant volatility, investors often look to other assets to diversify risk. Gold, the US dollar, and US Treasuries have therefore become focal points for the market.
But safe-haven trading is not simply a matter of moving money from one place to another.
Gold may benefit from safe-haven demand and falling real interest rates, but if the dollar strengthens and bond yields rise, gold may also come under pressure.
The dollar’s performance is just as complex. The dollar may find support when global funds seek safety, but concerns about the US economy and fiscal conditions may also affect its trajectory.
US stocks, meanwhile, must contend with multiple challenges, including valuation adjustments in tech stocks, corporate earnings expectations, and the interest-rate environment.
So, don’t assume that gold will rise just because US stocks are falling, or that the dollar is bound to strengthen.
The relationships between different assets are often more complex than they seem.
For everyday investors, the most important thing is not to bet all their money on a single direction.
When the stock market sneezes, global assets may all catch a cold. At times like these, diversifying risk matters more than guessing which asset will rise faster!$NVDA
