Nonfarm payrolls are out, but markets still haven't settled down! These 3 signals could determine the next move in U.S. stocks
The nonfarm payrolls data is out, but the real test for markets may only just be beginning.
The U.S. added 165k nonfarm jobs in October, and the unemployment rate fell to 4.1%, far exceeding market expectations.
The report has markets reconsidering one question: Is the U.S. economy heading for a soft landing, or is it strong enough to force the Federal Reserve to keep monetary policy tight?
Three signals are worth watching closely next.
First, inflation data. Strong employment doesn't necessarily mean inflation will rise, but if wages and service prices remain resilient, it will be hard for the Fed to pivot easily toward easing.
Second, U.S. Treasury yields. If markets keep raising their rate expectations, yields could remain elevated, which is unfavorable for growth stocks and tech valuations.
Third, remarks from Fed officials. Employment data is only one part of the policy picture; how officials assess the labor market and inflation next will shape market expectations for future interest rates.
The most exciting thing about investing is that after the data comes out, there are countless ways to interpret it.
Some see job growth and conclude the economy is resilient; others see strong data and worry rate cuts will be delayed; still others are watching bond yields and waiting for the next directional move.
So you can't draw conclusions about the market reaction to nonfarm payrolls just by looking at one number.
The data is out, but the market is still trying to make sense of it. Will U.S. stocks stabilize and rebound, or will they see another round of volatility? The answer may lie in the next inflation report!$AMD #10月非农数据聚焦
