When many investors look at U.S. stocks, their first instinct is to watch the Nasdaq and S&P 500. But what really deserves attention sometimes isn’t how much the indexes have fallen, but what is changing beneath the surface of the market.
If only a handful of high-valuation tech stocks are falling, it may just be sector rotation or profit-taking.
But if weakness spreads across more and more sectors, the number of advancing stocks declines, and trading volume rises noticeably, it’s time to be more cautious.
Another important indicator is the credit market. If corporate financing costs keep rising and the bond market comes under significant pressure, stocks may face deeper risks.
Federal Reserve policy expectations also affect the market. If expectations for rate cuts keep shifting, investors will be more cautious in assessing future funding costs.
So you can’t judge a bull-to-bear market shift based on a single day’s gains or losses.
What the market really needs is earnings support, investor confidence, and economic resilience.
A stock-market decline isn’t scary. What’s scary is when everyone suddenly realizes that the stocks they bought aren’t as cheap as they thought!$AMD
