$CLANKER I bought the dip all the way down at 15.5 and sold at 18.6, only for it to surge to 27.1—the missed gains hurt more than a loss.

The night before last, I watched the market as $CLANKER hovered around 15.5 for ages. Its 24h low was 15.51. When I saw trading volume suddenly surge, I got nervous and placed an order at 15.8, entering with a 30% position. I thought: it’s already fallen so much, and rising volume means buyers are stepping in. Half an hour after I got in, it climbed to 17. I was thrilled, thinking I’d bought the bottom.
The problem came the next day. When I woke up, it had surged to 20, and I was sitting on nearly 30% in unrealized gains. I started getting antsy, thinking only, “Take profits while I can.” I placed a sell order at 18.65, and felt pretty pleased when it filled. Then it climbed to 27.1, and I stared at the candlestick chart, stunned, for five minutes.
My takeaway is simple: buying the bottom takes luck; selling too early takes skill. Three lessons—First, if my entry rationale was “rising volume means buyers are stepping in,” then my exit should also depend on whether volume is fading, not on how much I’ve made. Volume hadn’t dropped at all at 18.6. I sold based on emotion, not a signal. Second, my position was too small, which made me lose perspective. A 30% gain on a 30% position is only 9% of my total portfolio, but I treated it like a huge win and rushed to lock in profits. A small position can actually make it harder to hold—counterintuitive, but true. Third, I had no take-profit rules. When it hit 20, I should have set a trailing stop, such as exiting after a 5% pullback, instead of arbitrarily placing an order at 18.65.
My advice now: $CLANKER is currently at 18.65, and its 24h range from 15.51 to 27.1 is nearly 75%. With this kind of volatility, chasing the price is like catching a falling knife. If you want to get in, wait for it to pull back near 17 and stabilize before deciding. Set a stop-loss below 15.5, and keep your position under 20%—this coin can give you an 18% gain in a day and take it right back. If you’re already holding, set your take-profit line 10% above your own entry price. Don’t make the same snap decision I did.
Traders on Gate Square, was this lesson from selling too early worth a follow? I’ll let you know next time I buy the dip.

Selling too early and missing the pump hurts a hundred times more than losing money. If you know, you know

It's emotion they're selling, not signals—this line is worth a follow

Wait for a pullback to 17, stop loss at 15.5. Noted
