Circle's earnings report is quite interesting. The results are certainly impressive, but a closer look reveals some nuances👀

Circle $CRCL released its Q3 earnings report last night, with revenue of $865 million, up 17% year over year, and earnings per share of $0.84, well above market expectations of around $0.4. Adjusted EBITDA grew 85% year over year

However, there's a detail worth noting:

This quarter, Circle recognized $182 million in revenue from the ARC token presale, accounting for around 21% of total revenue, while traditional interest income from USDC reserves actually fell 8% year over year;

More interestingly, USDC's quarterly on-chain transaction volume grew 49% year over year, but its circulating supply at quarter-end was essentially flat compared with the same period last year

This shows that USDC usage is indeed becoming more active, but its scale has yet to catch up

I think Circle's future growth drivers are still clear: the Arc mainnet, payment network, and institutional partnerships are all aiming to unlock growth beyond interest income

But this earnings beat owes something to one-time revenue

What will really be worth watching next is whether these new businesses can generate sustained revenue. After all, token sales can deliver a quarterly surprise, but long-term valuation still needs to be supported by sustained profitability

Circulating supply is flat but transaction activity is high, indicating USDC is shifting from a savings tool to a payment tool—a sign of transition

Reserve interest income fell 8%; the low-rate environment is really taking a toll, and Circle is rushing to find new revenue sources. Understandable

If institutional partnerships can be expanded, they’ll be much more sustainable than selling tokens. Keeping an eye on progress here

In the long run, it still comes down to whether the Arc ecosystem can take off. One-off revenue can fuel hype, but real valuation depends on repeat purchases

The 0.84 vs. 0.4 beat was massive—no wonder it rallied after hours, though its staying power is questionable

This upside surprise actually made me more cautious. When things seem too good to be true, first ask yourself if there’s a catch

I'm a little curious how the recognition of revenue from Arc token presales got through the audit
