Crude oil $CL longs at 96 buried 9 points deep? A whale takes a $4.9 million loss; 87 is the last escape line—hold on any longer and it’s really gone!

You’re stuck in a long entered at 96. It’s not bad luck—the logic has completely changed.

Democrats swept both chambers of Congress, and the market is betting the Iran war will end early. The geopolitical premium collapsed overnight, and WTI plunged more than 8% in a single day. Even worse, an on-chain whale with $148 million couldn’t stomach $15.08 million in unrealized losses and just stopped out of $44.04 million in CL longs, taking a real $4.9 million loss. If even whales are cutting their losses, why are you still hoping to break even?

The technical picture is even more brutal: 87 is the last line of defense. The lower boundary of the daily channel has already been breached. If 87 fails, the next targets are 82 or even 80. Your long at 96 is now at 87, with nearly 10% in unrealized losses. If 87 breaks again, it’s no longer about being stuck in a trade—it’s about how much of your principal will be left.

Old Zhang’s approach to getting out of a losing trade comes down to one line: don’t bet on direction—survive first. Blindly adding to your position here to lower your cost basis is suicide. The right move is to hedge in the opposite direction to lock in your risk exposure, then wait for volatility to contract and look for a window to unwind the position in stages during a structural rebound, while setting a firm stop-loss below 87.

Every position has different leverage and margin; one-size-fits-all advice is just nonsense.

Bring your risk tolerance, and @老张说趋势 will help sort out your position—how to unwind it, what proportions to use, and what to do if 87 breaks briefly. There’s still hope!

When will the window for a structural rebound open? Should we wait for the VIX to come down

#BTC returns to 80,000, but crude oil is in a bloodbath—the market is truly split.

If the leverage is too high, 87 won’t be able to handle it. The margin needs to be calculated carefully

Don’t bet on direction; survive first. This is worth printing and putting on the wall

This reverse-hedging strategy is indeed solid: hedge the risk first, then look for opportunities

Lao Zhang, this analysis is perfectly timed. If 87 breaks, I’m getting out immediately
