The recent rebound in AI and chip stocks brings the sector back into focus. Between NVDA and AMD, my clear choice is NVDA based on current valuations and technical setups.
Valuation is the first major factor. While both companies are leaders in the AI space, NVDA trades at a much more reasonable P/E ratio of 26. AMD, by contrast, carries a P/E ratio over 104. For a long-term position, NVDA offers a better margin of safety because its earnings justify the stock price far better than AMD's current multiples.
Technically, NVDA looks primed for a bounce. The stock recently pulled back from its high of 243 down to a support level near 200. The StochRSI is sitting at an extremely low 0.12, which indicates heavily oversold conditions and a high probability of a reversal. Meanwhile, the MACD histogram is flattening, suggesting the selling pressure is fading.
AMD had a strong post-earnings jump due to data center revenue growth, but it is recovering from a much deeper drop from its 658 peak. Its MACD remains deeply negative.
NVDA remains the anchor of the AI sector with a market cap near 5 trillion. Buying near this 200 support level with oversold indicators flashing offers a more favorable risk to reward setup compared to chasing AMD after its earnings gap. NVDA has the fundamental strength and technical setup to lead the next leg of this rally.
