The latest U.S. economic data delivered a mixed but important message for global markets.

The Federal Reserve’s preferred inflation gauge showed that Core PCE increased 0.2% month-over-month in August, below the 0.3% expectation, while the annual Core PCE rate came in around 3.0%. Headline PCE rose 0.3% month-over-month and 3.4% year-over-year. The softer underlying inflation reading gives policymakers some additional room to assess incoming data before making further decisions on interest rates.

At the same time, the U.S. economy proved more resilient than previously estimated. The final Q2 GDP reading was revised up to a 2.2% annualized growth rate, compared with the earlier 1.5% estimate. Consumer spending, investment and exports contributed to the stronger reading, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

This creates an interesting macro backdrop: inflation is showing some signs of moderation, while economic growth remains solid. Consumer spending also jumped 0.9% in August, highlighting that household demand remains relatively strong.

For financial markets, the combination of softer Core PCE and stronger GDP is particularly important. Lower inflation pressure can reduce expectations for aggressive tightening, while stronger growth can support risk sentiment. However, inflation remains above the Federal Reserve’s 2% target, meaning the next inflation and employment reports will remain closely watched.

For crypto traders, this data matters because changes in Fed expectations can quickly influence the U.S. dollar, Treasury yields, liquidity conditions and ultimately risk assets such as Bitcoin and other digital assets.

The bigger question now is whether inflation continues to cool while economic growth remains resilient. The next few macro releases could provide more clarity on the Fed’s path and the broader direction of global markets.
