MICRON $MU: THE REAL EARNINGS TEST IS WHAT COMES AFTER $50 BILLION

Micron Technology is approaching one of the most important earnings reports of its 2026 cycle, but I think traders should look beyond the headline EPS number.

The real question is much bigger:

Can Micron continue converting the AI boom into record revenue, extraordinary margins, strong cash flow and increasingly visible future demand?

Micron is scheduled to report fiscal Q4 2026 results on September 30 after the U.S. market close.

Management's current guidance is already massive:

💰 Revenue: $49B–$51B, around $50B midpoint
📈 Gross margin: approximately 86%
💵 Non-GAAP EPS: $31 ± $1

Those numbers would have sounded almost unbelievable during previous memory cycles.

But Micron's fiscal Q3 results show how dramatically the business has changed.

Q3 revenue reached $41.46B, compared with only $9.30B a year earlier.

Non-GAAP EPS jumped to $25.11, versus $1.91 previously.

Non-GAAP operating income reached approximately $33.68B, while operating cash flow came in at $25.39B.

That is why this earnings report matters.

This is no longer simply a story about memory-chip prices.

It is increasingly a story about AI infrastructure.

🧠 AI IS CHANGING THE MEMORY BUSINESS

Modern AI systems require enormous amounts of high-bandwidth memory.

As models become larger, inference workloads increase and data centers deploy more powerful accelerators, memory bandwidth and capacity become increasingly important.

Micron is directly positioned in this trend through HBM.

The company has said that HBM4 is already in high-volume shipments for its lead customer's platform, while qualification samples have been shipped to additional customers.

Micron is also developing HBM4E, with volume production expected in calendar 2027.

Its HBM4 36GB 12H product is designed for NVIDIA's Vera Rubin platform and is specified to deliver more than 2.8 TB/s of bandwidth.

That makes HBM one of the most important parts of the Micron story.

💰 THE CUSTOMER COMMITMENTS ARE ALSO IMPORTANT

Another part of Micron's transformation is its Strategic Customer Agreements.

Micron has disclosed 16 signed Strategic Customer Agreements representing roughly 20% of DRAM volume and approximately one-third of NAND volume over their agreement periods.

Fourteen agreements represent approximately $100B of cumulative minimum-price revenue over their remaining terms.

Cash deposits and related financial commitments are expected to reach roughly $22B for agreements concluded to date.

For me, this is significant because it provides another way to evaluate the current memory cycle.

Instead of asking only:

“Will memory prices stay strong next quarter?”

Traders can also ask:

“How much future demand has already been committed?”

That distinction matters.

📊 THREE NUMBERS I WILL WATCH CLOSELY

1. Revenue

Will Micron beat or fall short of the approximately $50B Q4 guide?

2. Gross margin

The approximately 86% margin guidance is extraordinary. Any meaningful change could influence how investors view pricing power, product mix and supply conditions.

3. Fiscal Q1 2027 guidance

This could be the most important number of the entire report.

A huge Q4 is already partly expected.

The market wants to know what happens next.

Does revenue continue rising?

Do margins remain elevated?

Does HBM4 demand continue expanding?

Does management maintain strong visibility through customer commitments?

Those answers could matter more than the backward-looking Q4 numbers.

📈 MU PRICE ACTION MATTERS TOO

MU has already experienced an extraordinary repricing in 2026.

Recent market data had the stock around $1,082.28 on September 25, while traders are also watching the $1,255 area as an important reference near the major highs.

A breakout through previous highs with strong volume and stronger forward guidance would provide important confirmation that the market is accepting higher future earnings expectations.

But a rejection near the highs combined with weaker guidance, declining margins or softer memory-pricing commentary could produce significant volatility.

That is why I would not judge the entire earnings reaction from the first candle.

🔥 MY EARNINGS CHECKLIST

I will be watching:

• Revenue vs. ~$50B guide
• Gross margin vs. ~86%
• EPS vs. ~$31
• Q1 2027 revenue guidance
• Q1 margin guidance
• HBM4 shipments and qualifications
• DRAM pricing
• NAND pricing
• Customer commitments
• Deposits and financial commitments
• Capital expenditure
• Free cash flow
• AI data-center demand

The bigger story is that AI is making memory increasingly strategic.

GPUs alone cannot build an AI data center.

The infrastructure also needs high-bandwidth memory, large-capacity DRAM and storage.

Micron is positioned directly inside that supply chain.

But expectations are now extremely high.

So my focus is not simply whether Micron beats earnings.

I want to see whether management can extend the future earnings trajectory.

If revenue remains powerful, margins stay elevated, HBM4 demand expands and customer commitments continue providing visibility, the market will have more evidence that Micron's earnings expansion is supported by structural AI demand rather than only a temporary memory-price spike.

Sep 30 is therefore more than another earnings date.

It is a test of whether Micron's extraordinary 2026 performance can continue into 2027.

Don't watch only EPS.

Watch revenue, margins, HBM4, DRAM, NAND, customer commitments, cash flow, capex and Q1 2027 guidance.

That is where the real $MU story will be revealed.
