Gate Europe has reached another important milestone in strengthening the security infrastructure behind its payment services.

Gate Technology Ltd, Gate’s European entity, successfully completed an independent assessment against PCI DSS v4.0.1 Level 1 requirements and received its official Attestation of Compliance (AoC).

The assessed scope includes Gate Connect, Gate Card, and supporting systems involved in handling payment-card data.

For me, the significance of this milestone goes beyond the certificate itself. Payment security is one of the most important foundations when digital-asset platforms connect with traditional financial infrastructure. Users may see the card, payment interface, or account balance, but behind that experience is a much larger security environment responsible for protecting sensitive information.

PCI DSS, or the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard, is specifically designed around protecting cardholder data and the systems involved in processing, storing, or transmitting it.

Level 1 represents the highest PCI DSS merchant/service-provider level. Achieving this level requires extensive assessment of security controls and formal independent validation.

The process covers areas such as access control, cardholder-data protection, vulnerability management, security testing, monitoring, encryption, security procedures, and other safeguards required by the applicable PCI DSS framework.

The Attestation of Compliance provides formal documentation of that assessment for the systems included within the stated scope.

This distinction is important.

PCI DSS compliance does not mean that every possible cybersecurity risk disappears, nor does it guarantee that an organisation can never experience a security incident. Instead, it demonstrates that the assessed systems have undergone an independent evaluation against applicable PCI DSS requirements.

That makes ongoing maintenance just as important as achieving the milestone.

Gate Europe’s PCI DSS achievement also sits alongside its broader European regulatory infrastructure.

Gate Technology Ltd has obtained MiCA Crypto-Asset Service Provider authorisation from the Malta Financial Services Authority (MFSA), together with the relevant European Economic Area passporting framework, and also holds a Payment Institution licence under PSD2.

These frameworks serve different purposes.

MiCA addresses applicable crypto-asset services and regulatory requirements. PSD2 provides a framework for regulated payment services. PCI DSS focuses specifically on payment-card security.

Together, they represent different layers of the infrastructure required when digital assets interact with regulated financial and payment systems.

For users of Gate Connect and Gate Card, the practical takeaway is straightforward: payment security needs to be treated as a core part of the service, not something added later.

For banks, payment providers, and institutional partners, independently assessed compliance can also form part of technology and operational due diligence. Formal documentation helps demonstrate which entity and systems were assessed and what compliance framework was applied.

There is also a broader industry trend here.

Crypto platforms are increasingly connecting with cards, banks, payment networks, and traditional financial institutions. As this connection grows, security standards from the established payments industry become increasingly relevant to digital-asset infrastructure.

Trading products and transaction speed matter, but so do access controls, monitoring, encryption, vulnerability management, regulatory frameworks, and independent assessments.

Gate Europe’s 15 September 2026 PCI DSS v4.0.1 Level 1 milestone therefore represents more than another compliance announcement. It highlights the work happening behind the scenes to strengthen payment infrastructure.

Security engineers, compliance teams, developers, infrastructure specialists, risk professionals, auditors, and leadership all contribute to maintaining these systems.

The certificate is visible.

The continuous work behind it is not.

That is why this milestone deserves attention.
