Gate BTC Spot Market Share Just Told A Much Bigger Story

Sometimes the most important market story is not a new product, a price target, or a short-term ranking.

Sometimes, it is a number that quietly changes over time.

For Gate, that number is 2.0% → 9.1%.

According to the latest Glassnode BTC spot-volume analysis, Gate has climbed four positions over the past two years to rank 3 among the exchanges covered by the analysis.

But the ranking alone does not explain the full picture.

The bigger story is how much Gate’s measured share of BTC spot volume has expanded.

Two years ago, Gate represented approximately 2.0% of the measured BTC spot market. Today, that figure has reached 9.1%.

That is a gain of 7.1 percentage points, or roughly a 355% increase in relative market share.

That is a substantial structural change.

And there is another number that makes the development even more interesting:

Gate has appeared in the Top 3 for 9 of the last 24 months.

That means this is not simply a one-month spike appearing on a ranking table. Gate has repeatedly maintained a position among the leading exchanges within Glassnode’s covered BTC spot-market data.

FROM 7 TO 3

The four-position climb from approximately 7 to 3 is certainly notable.

But when we combine the ranking with the market-share data, the story becomes much clearer.

3 current ranking
+4 positions over two years
9 Top-3 months out of 24
2.0% → 9.1% market share
+7.1 percentage points
~355% relative expansion

These figures describe growth from multiple angles.

A ranking tells us where Gate currently stands.

Market share tells us how much of the measured market Gate represents.

And the 24-month history tells us whether the move has shown persistence.

Together, they provide a much deeper picture than simply saying “Gate is now 3.”

BTC SPOT VOLUME IS ALSO RECOVERING

The timing is particularly interesting because the broader Bitcoin spot market has also experienced a major recovery in activity.

Glassnode reports that aggregate 24-hour BTC spot volume across its covered exchanges recovered 121% from the August low.

That means this is not happening inside a completely quiet market.

Bitcoin spot-market activity itself has been expanding.

So there are two developments worth watching at the same time:

The overall BTC spot market is becoming more active.

And Gate now represents a much larger share of that measured activity than it did two years ago.

That combination makes the latest ranking more meaningful from a market-structure perspective.

SPOT IS DIFFERENT FROM DERIVATIVES

Another important distinction is that this analysis concerns BTC spot volume, not perpetual futures or leveraged derivatives.

Spot trading represents activity in the underlying Bitcoin market.

That makes spot volume particularly useful when studying where trading activity and liquidity are being concentrated.

Of course, volume alone does not guarantee perfect execution, zero slippage, or deeper liquidity on every order. But sustained spot activity remains an important metric when evaluating the scale of an exchange’s BTC trading ecosystem.

BITCOIN’S BIGGER MARKET STRUCTURE

Glassnode’s broader Bitcoin analysis also identifies several important levels.

The $84,000–$85,000 area is highlighted as a significant long-term-holder supply zone.

Around $93,200 is identified as the next major on-chain resistance based on the mean MVRV price, while approximately $76,000 represents the True Market Mean support.

These are Bitcoin-wide market levels, not Gate targets.

At the same time, Glassnode reported approximately $1.3 billion in U.S. spot Bitcoin ETF inflows across the five days following the current squeeze, with the latest day representing the largest single-day inflow since early July.

This suggests that the recovery in Bitcoin market participation is being accompanied by meaningful spot-market capital activity as well.

WHY THE 9.1% NUMBER MATTERS

For me, the most interesting part of this entire story is not simply that Gate reached 3.

It is the transformation from 2.0% to 9.1%.

That tells a longer story.

Over two years, Gate has moved from a relatively small share of the measured BTC spot market to a significantly larger position.

And doing that while appearing in the Top 3 during 9 of the last 24 months adds another layer of consistency to the data.

Still, the methodology matters.

Glassnode’s figures apply to the exchanges and BTC spot-volume data included in its analysis. They should not automatically be interpreted as representing every exchange or every Bitcoin transaction globally. Rankings and market shares can also change as trading conditions evolve.

But within that measured framework, the trend is clear:

Gate’s BTC spot-market presence has expanded substantially.

From 2.0% to 9.1%.

From approximately 7 to 3.

From occasional participation to 9 Top-3 months in 24 months.

And with Bitcoin spot volume itself recovering 121% from the August low, this is a market-development story worth watching.

The headline may be 3.

But the real story is growth in market share, persistence, and expanding BTC spot-market presence.

The numbers are doing the talking.
