#GarrettJinHolds320MInZEC
Zcash is suddenly one of the most closely watched large-cap assets in the market, and the reported $320 million position linked to Garrett Jin adds another major layer to the story.
According to Gate News, Jin reportedly holds around 202,080 ZEC, valued at approximately $320 million based on a reference price near $1,580. But the more interesting part is that the position is not simply a massive spot bet. Reports also indicate that Jin holds roughly 38,000 ZEC in a Hyperliquid short position worth around $60 million.
That creates a much more complicated market structure.
The reported spot position represents significant exposure to ZEC, while the derivatives short provides a hedge against downside risk. Lookonchain-linked reporting previously estimated the short at approximately 37,999 ZEC, with an average entry near $671.05. As ZEC moved toward the $1,500 area, the position was reportedly carrying an unrealized loss of roughly $33.87 million.
For me, this is important because a whale position should never be analyzed from the spot side alone.
If ZEC continues climbing, losses on the short could increase and potentially encourage position reduction or short covering. In a strongly trending market, that buying activity can add fuel to momentum. But if ZEC suddenly corrects, the short position becomes a useful hedge while the spot holdings lose value.
So the key question is not simply, “Is a whale holding $320 million of ZEC?”
The better question is: How does that position behave as ZEC approaches major liquidity zones?
ZEC has already delivered an extraordinary move. Recent market data shows the token moving from roughly $1,110 on September 15 toward the $1,500–$1,600 region within only a few sessions. ZEC closed around $1,337.05 on September 16 after gaining approximately 20.36%, followed by a close near $1,468.25 on September 17 after another 9.81% increase. The next session closed around $1,560.28, adding another 6.27%.
ZEC also reached approximately $1,590.80 on September 19, putting the market close to the critical $1,600 psychological level.
At the latest reference point, CoinMarketCap data showed ZEC around $1,470.93, with a 24-hour range near $1,469.60–$1,581.30, market capitalization around $24.82 billion and 24-hour trading volume near $1.49 billion.
That tells me momentum remains strong, but volatility is becoming equally important.
My main resistance zone is $1,580–$1,600. A decisive breakout above $1,600 with strong volume could push ZEC into price discovery, with $1,650–$1,700 becoming the next area to monitor. Above that, $1,800 is another major psychological zone, while $2,000 represents a much larger upside scenario rather than a guaranteed target.
On the other side, I would watch $1,450–$1,470 as the first support area, followed by $1,400. Below that, $1,330–$1,350 becomes particularly important because it aligns with recent breakout and consolidation activity.
A decisive move below $1,300 with expanding selling volume would weaken the short-term bullish structure and could expose the $1,200–$1,250 region. A deeper move toward $1,100–$1,150 would represent a much larger profit-taking phase.
The broader ZEC narrative is also gaining attention through governance developments, the NU7 upgrade, community voting activity and reported institutional exposure, including public disclosure from Paradigm co-founder Matt Huang that the firm owns ZEC.
My approach here is confirmation over FOMO.
I would rather see ZEC prove that $1,600 has become support than chase an extended green candle. At the same time, if the market pulls back toward $1,450–$1,470 or $1,400 and buyers clearly defend those levels, the structure becomes easier to evaluate.
The biggest signal to watch now is not simply the whale's $320 million position. It is wallet movements, exchange deposits, derivatives positioning, volume and price reaction around $1,600.
ZEC has already shown extraordinary momentum. The next phase will reveal whether this becomes sustained price discovery or a major profit-taking event.
