All the long positions made money based on my analysis, right? It’s Saturday, so I won’t talk about the market today. I just want to share a few honest thoughts: many people trade futures with their eyes only on how many U they can make, and rarely calculate first how much they can afford to lose at most.
I entered the market 7 years ago with 4,000 U and have built a seven-figure account over the years. I’ve seen countless traders double their money in the short term, only to go to zero overnight. Those who truly stay in the market for the long term are never the masters of catching explosive rallies and crashes, but rather those who know how to control their losses.
The biggest trap in short-term futures trading is getting swept up in the market’s short-term profits. You get carried away when you see a pump, casually increase leverage, go all-in with a heavy position, and ignore the liquidation line. The market will not always move according to your prediction, so every position must have a plan for the worst-case scenario.
My hard-and-fast rules:
1. For each initial position, use only a small amount of capital to test the waters; never go all-in to bet on a direction;
2. Set a strict maximum loss for each trade; exit immediately when the loss reaches the threshold, and never hold and hope;
3. After reaching a set number of consecutive losses, force yourself to stop trading and don’t rush to win back your losses.
There will always be opportunities in the market, but you only have one pool of capital. In the futures market, staying alive comes before talking about profits.
