Arc’s mainnet launch delivered explosive activity — but the first 24 hours have also exposed just how quickly liquidity and sentiment can reverse in a new crypto ecosystem.
Circle’s Arc mainnet went live on September 16, positioning the network around stablecoin payments, financial markets, real-time value movement and on-chain economic activity. Yet the first-day trading activity was dominated by speculative token launches rather than only the institutional use cases associated with the network.
According to data reported on September 17, Arc processed approximately $410.8 million in DEX volume and 7.76 million transactions on its first mainnet day. Memecoin launchpads accounted for roughly 82% of the DEX volume, showing just how much early activity was concentrated in highly speculative assets.
That combination — huge activity and extreme speculation — is what makes the current Arc ecosystem particularly interesting.
The volatility is the story
Several Arc ecosystem tokens experienced dramatic declines on September 17.
Gate market data reported that ARGUS fell more than 40% over 12 hours, LONG more than 70%, and COOL more than 75% during the period. These moves occurred even as major crypto assets showed signs of recovery following the Federal Reserve's latest rate decision.
That divergence matters.
If Bitcoin and Ethereum stabilize while small ecosystem tokens continue falling, it suggests the selling pressure is not simply a broad crypto-market reaction. Instead, investors may be reassessing the valuations, liquidity and sustainability of individual projects launched around Arc.
Why can new-chain tokens move so violently?
Early-stage crypto markets often have a very different liquidity profile from established assets.
A token can experience enormous percentage moves with relatively modest amounts of capital when its available liquidity is limited. When buying momentum accelerates, prices can rise rapidly. But when traders begin taking profits or exiting simultaneously, the same structure can work in reverse.
This is especially important for tokens that experienced rapid appreciation immediately after the Arc mainnet launch.
The first-day numbers demonstrate how quickly attention moved toward speculative trading. More than 97,000 tokens were reportedly deployed through Arc launchpads during the first day, while one launchpad alone accounted for more than $200 million of volume.
High transaction counts and trading volume therefore should not automatically be interpreted as proof of sustainable economic adoption.
Arc has a bigger opportunity beyond speculation
This is where the long-term story becomes more interesting.
Arc is an EVM-compatible Layer 1 designed around financial applications, stablecoin-based payments and real-time value transfer. Its architecture and ecosystem ambitions are broader than meme-coin trading.
If developers eventually build meaningful payment systems, financial applications, trading infrastructure and other real-world use cases on the network, early speculative activity could become only one chapter of a much larger ecosystem story.
Arc's own ecosystem materials describe the network as an open financial platform intended for global markets, real-time value movement and agentic economic activity.
But that potential still has to be demonstrated through sustained usage.
The biggest risk: confusing activity with adoption
A new blockchain can generate enormous attention during launch without necessarily achieving durable demand.
Investors should therefore separate several different metrics:
Trading volume is not the same as economic activity.
Transaction count is not necessarily the same as active users.
Token price appreciation is not proof of fundamental value.
And a successful mainnet launch does not guarantee that individual ecosystem tokens will succeed.
The current selloff is a useful reminder of that distinction.
What should investors watch next?
The next phase could be more informative than the launch itself.
1. Sustainable liquidity
Can Arc maintain meaningful liquidity after the initial speculative wave fades?
2. Developer activity
Are developers continuing to deploy useful applications, or does activity remain concentrated around short-term token speculation?
3. Stablecoin usage
Because Arc is closely connected to stablecoin-based financial infrastructure, sustained stablecoin transfers and payments could be a more meaningful adoption indicator than meme-token volume.
4. User retention
The critical question is whether users who arrived for speculation remain on the network for other applications.
5. Token-specific fundamentals
Each ecosystem token needs to be evaluated independently. A token associated with a launchpad, trading platform or community may have a completely different risk profile from another Arc-based project.
Buy the dip or stay on the sidelines?
That question sounds simple, but the current market structure makes it difficult to answer with price alone.
A token falling 50% is not automatically cheap. It can fall another 50% if liquidity continues to deteriorate.
Likewise, a token that has already risen sharply is not automatically overvalued. Its future depends on factors such as utility, adoption, liquidity, token supply and sustainable demand.
For that reason, the more useful question is not simply “How much has the token fallen?”
It is:
“What fundamental reason would cause demand to return?”
That is the question investors should ask across the Arc ecosystem.
The bigger picture
Arc's first days have produced two very different signals.
On one side, the network has demonstrated an extraordinary level of early activity and attracted significant attention.
On the other, the sharp declines in several ecosystem tokens show how fragile sentiment can be when speculative capital dominates a new market.
The long-term test is therefore just beginning.
If Arc can convert launch-day attention into real users, sustainable liquidity, useful applications and recurring financial activity, the ecosystem could develop beyond its initial speculative phase.
If activity remains overwhelmingly dependent on short-lived token speculation, the early volume may prove much less meaningful.
The Arc ecosystem has captured attention. Now the market is waiting for something more difficult to manufacture: sustainable adoption.
Would you consider buying after this correction, or would you wait for liquidity, utility and user growth to prove that the Arc ecosystem has staying power?
