Nvidia Stock Falls 2.2%, Palantir Drops 2% on AI Supply Chain Partnership Despite Macro Headwinds
Nvidia (NVDA) and Palantir (PLTR) stocks both declined on Thursday despite announcing a major AI supply chain partnership, as broader macroeconomic headwinds weighed on technology stocks. Nvidia fell 2.35% and Palantir dropped 2.17%, with oil prices above $100 and hotter U.S. producer inflation pushing Treasury yields higher and increasing pressure on expensive AI stocks. The declines were more of a macro reaction than a rejection of the partnership itself, which is seen as strengthening both companies' positions in enterprise AI. Under the agreement, Nvidia is deploying Palantir's Foundry, AIP, and Ontology platforms alongside its Nemotron open models within its own supply chain operations. The system will cover approximately 1.3 million parts across each Nvidia Vera Rubin rack, with the broader supply chain spanning millions of components and thousands of suppliers. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said the goal is to turn "this vast operational graph into sovereign intelligence," while Palantir CEO Alex Karp described Nvidia as having "arguably the most valuable, intricate, and complex supply chain in the world". The companies plan to make the same technology available to customers in manufacturing, energy, healthcare, and aerospace, with deployment options including on-premises infrastructure from Dell and Cisco, as well as cloud infrastructure through Rackspace and Nebius. Palantir also announced a new cybersecurity initiative called the Cardinal Program, which will provide select municipalities, utilities, and other critical infrastructure operators with continuous security assessments at no cost. Additionally, Palantir expanded its partnership with Japan's Fujitsu, which will adopt Palantir AIP and Foundry and become a Global Forward Deployed Engineering Partner. Despite the positive strategic developments, the market's reaction reflected the challenging macro environment, with rising yields and inflation concerns overshadowing the partnership news.
