#NvidiaMarketCapBackAbove5.4T – Nvidia Market Cap Returns Above $5.4 Trillion as It Becomes First Company to Breach $5.5 Trillion

Nvidia's market capitalization has returned above $5.4 trillion, with shares rising 1.2% to $223.50 and reaching an intraday high of $5.52 trillion—making it the first publicly traded company in history to surpass the $5.5 trillion mark. The chip giant, which now accounts for approximately 8% of the entire S&P 500 index, has become so large that its movements are now shaping the broader market's trajectory. This is not merely a record; it is a market distortion, with Nvidia's valuation single-handedly influencing index calculations. The surge was driven by the simultaneous breaking of three psychological thresholds: the $5 trillion barrier that had haunted the stock since it first broke through on October 29 before a two-day semiconductor selloff erased $300 billion; a single-day addition of $441.5 billion last Thursday—the largest one-day increase in the company's history and the second-largest for any company ever; and reclaiming the title of America's most valuable company from Apple after a brief period where Apple had overtaken the top spot. The rally is underpinned by Dell's announcement of $60.9 billion in new AI server orders in a single quarter, ending the period with a record $95 billion backlog—with over 90% of those servers powered by Nvidia's Blackwell and Hopper GPUs. Essentially, Dell's $95 billion delivery backlog represents prepaid orders for Nvidia's revenue over the next three quarters. Nvidia itself is now in a different dimension, having beaten Wall Street expectations in Q2 with shares approaching an all-time high of $225. Despite being up 14% for the year and 6% just this month, the SOX semiconductor index has fallen 11% over the same period—highlighting how Nvidia is decoupling from its own sector.

$5.5 trillion—this number looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. But Dell’s $95 billion in orders is real money, and Blackwell is selling like hotcakes.

NVDA now accounts for 8% of the S&P 500—if it coughs, the broader market catches a cold. The semiconductor index fell 11% while it rose 14%; the sector can no longer contain this giant.

After falling back from 5 trillion and clawing its way back, it also set a record with a single-day gain of 44.1 billion. Even the crypto market is speechless at this volatility.
