Bitcoin: Struggle Between Miner Selling and Institutional Buying
Bitcoin is trading around $63,500, down slightly by 0.2% over the past 24 hours. The price has remained within a narrow range between $63,200 and $64,500. The market is experiencing a struggle between selling pressure from miners and institutional buying strength. Technical indicators point to a possible breakout after short-term consolidation.
Miner Selling: Pressure Factor
From August 5–9, several mining companies listed on various exchanges sold significant amounts of BTC:
• Mara Holdings: 726 BTC
• Cipher Digital: 470 BTC
• Bitdeer: 270.5 BTC
• Hyperscale Data: 150.5 BTC
These large-scale sales created additional supply in the market and put downward pressure on prices. Reasons behind miner selling include operating costs, equipment investments, or profit-taking.
Institutional Buying: Counterbalancing Strength
Several institutional players continued accumulating Bitcoin during the same period:
• Morgan Stanley: Added 232 BTC, bringing its total holdings to more than 6,500 BTC.
• Cardone Capital: Bought 350 BTC.
• Block: Increased its position to 9,117 BTC after adding 85 BTC.
This institutional buying has acted as a counterbalance to miner selling pressure. Continued interest in Bitcoin from traditional financial institutions also supports long-term optimism.
Technical Outlook
Current Situation:
• Price: $63,542
• 24-hour high: $64,473
• 24-hour low: $63,234
• Volume: 5,050 BTC (321.75 million USDT)
Death cross: This formation occurs when a short-term moving average, such as the MA50, crosses below a long-term average, namely the MA200, signaling short-term weakness. However, this signal does not always lead to a sharp decline; sometimes it can result in horizontal consolidation.
Bollinger Band Width: A narrowing of the band width to very low levels indicates that volatility may increase in the near term. Historically, such narrowing is often seen before major price movements.
Volume Increase: An increase in volume while prices are falling is often interpreted as panic selling. However, this condition can also appear during the bottoming process.
Balance Between Institutional Buying and Miner Selling
Miner Selling (Pressure):
• Operating and energy costs
• Equipment investment and capacity expansion
• Profit realization
Institutional Buying (Support):
• Long-term portfolio diversification
• Growing confidence as regulatory clarity improves
• Hedging strategy against inflation
My Expectations
Bitcoin is seeking a balance between selling pressure from miners and buying support from institutions. Although technical indicators signal short-term weakness, the narrowing Bollinger Band width indicates the potential for a breakout in the near term.
Levels to Watch:
• Resistance: 64,500 (intraday high), 65,000 (psychological level)
• Support: 63,200 (intraday low), 62,000, 60,000
Macroeconomic data and institutional buying flows to be released in the coming days will influence the direction of Bitcoin.
