The world’s shackles are but a dream—formless, intangible, and without a self. The poor calculate fate; the rich burn incense, confusedly asking about yin and yang. If we simply do our duty, why ask ghosts and gods for the right remedy? Of ten who burn incense, nine seek wealth—how many offer truly sincere incense? The gods lack nothing for want of three incense sticks; with a kind heart and good thoughts, wealth comes of its own accord. Half mad, half foolish, half deranged; half human, half ghost, half immortal. Half apart, half together, half resentful; half worldly, half Zen, half at peace with fate. Half of life lies with me, and the other half with heaven. We are all guests with reservations in the underworld—why make every day so difficult?
