: How different are the outcomes of two paths with 20x leverage? Assume a principal of 100U, with 3% margin = 3U. At 20x leverage, that gives you a notional position of 60U. A 1% price move on this trade means a profit or loss of 0.6U (0.6% of your principal). A 5% move in the opposite direction means a 3U loss, wiping out your margin and bringing you close to liquidation.

Path A: Profit first, then loss. After entering the trade, you’re up 3% (a gain of 1.8U) → you start thinking, “This trade is a sure thing.” The price pulls back to your entry price → you can’t accept it and think, “I’ll wait for it to get back to the recent high.” It keeps falling another 3% → you’re down 1.8U and start thinking, “I’ll hold on a little longer.” It falls to -5% → liquidation, and all 3U are gone. Result: You go from a gain of 1.8U to a loss of 3U—a 4.8U swing. Worse still, you didn’t change any of your rules; only your mindset changed.

Path B: Drawdown first, then profit. After entering the trade, you’re down 2% → a loss of 1.2U. But your stop loss is set beyond the structure (-4%). The price hasn’t reached the structure, and the structure hasn’t broken, so you keep holding. The price returns to your entry price → you’re back to breakeven. It reaches your target at +4% → a gain of 2.4U. Result: a gain of 2.4U. You did one thing right the whole time—you didn’t move your stop loss.

The key difference isn’t the money; it’s what happens “next.” After Path A, your takeaway is, “I almost made money on that trade. Next time, I’ll get out sooner” → so on your next trade, you’ll take profit too early and cut a winning trade short. After Path B, your takeaway is, “Waiting for the structure was the right call” → so you’ll still be willing to wait on your next trade. One path trains you to jump the gun; the other trains you to wait. Three months later, the difference isn’t a few U—it’s two different kinds of people.

The harsh reality of 20x leverage: The higher the leverage, the more the path matters. Your margin for error is only 4–5%. When you profit first and lose later, there’s almost no chance to “come back”—before you can wait for the market to turn, your margin is already gone. So: 20x → you must use a structural stop loss, take profits in batches, and never move your stop loss upward. If you want the comfort of “drawdown first, then profit” → lower your leverage to below 5x to give yourself room to wait.

In a word: Leverage determines whether you can wait; rules determine whether you’re waiting the right way. Profiting first and losing later isn’t bad luck—leverage has reduced your margin for error to zero. $BTC $ETH #质押Launchpool瓜分45万VLX #Gate pioneered proof of fund safety
