UK Services PMI Rises to 52.5 in August, Highest Since April, but Price Pressures Mount

According to S&P Global, the UK services sector's purchasing managers' index (PMI) rose to 52.5 in August from 52.1 in July, marking the strongest growth since April, data released Thursday showed. The final reading came in slightly below the preliminary estimate of 52.8 but signaled continued resilience in the services sector. However, an increasing number of firms reported rising costs, a concern for the Bank of England. Tim Moore, S&P Global chief economist, said the August data highlighted improvements in the overall operating conditions of UK services, with business and consumer spending returning to growth after declining in the second quarter.
