According to Business Insider, Anthropic on Wednesday, August 5 officially confirmed it has launched a custom AI chip development program with an internal team dedicated to designing specialized silicon for its Claude model. The company aims to enhance computational speed and energy efficiency through co-design of hardware and AI models while better supporting growing enterprise deployment needs.
Anthhropic emphasized it will adopt a "multi-chip strategy," meaning custom chips will not replace existing partnerships with AWS, Google, NVIDIA, and AMD. The company will continue using AI computing hardware from these suppliers. Reports from Reuters previously noted Anthropic was evaluating in-house chip design feasibility, while The Information disclosed last month that Anthropic had engaged with Samsung Electronics regarding potential future chip manufacturing collaboration.
