S&P 500 Surges 1.8% While VIX Rises on August 4, S&P 500 Call Options Hit Record 4M Contracts

According to CNBC, on August 4, S&P 500 surged 1.8% while VIX rose 1 point, marking an unusual inversion of their typical inverse relationship. The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) reported that S&P 500 call options traded over 4 million contracts that day, setting an all-time record. According to Nations Indexes, Nasdaq-100 call option prices jumped 42% in a single day, the largest one-day move in five years, while the put-call ratio fell to 0.83, the second-lowest level on record.
