Wells Fargo: Caterpillar Rallies 5.6% on AI Spillover Benefits, Industrial Stocks Gain on Tuesday

CAT0.11%
According to Wells Fargo strategist Ohsung Kwon, on Tuesday (August 4), artificial intelligence capital expenditure from tech giants is beginning to "spill over" into the broader economy, driving gains in industrial and capital equipment stocks. Caterpillar, the construction equipment manufacturer, rose 5.6% after reporting better-than-expected Q2 earnings driven by data center construction demand. The company's quarterly revenue exceeded $20 billion for the first time, surpassing Wall Street expectations. Industrial stocks have gained 20% year-to-date, trailing only energy and technology sectors. However, Kwon cautioned that rapid data center expansion faces growing political headwinds, particularly ahead of November's U.S. midterm elections, citing concerns over electricity costs, water consumption, and environmental impact.
