Minneapolis Fed President Kashkari Prefers Gradual Rate Hikes on August 5

According to CNBC, Neel Kashkari, president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, stated on August 5 that he prefers starting with small steps to raise interest rates rather than waiting for inflation to worsen. Kashkari was one of three dissenters voting for a rate hike at last week's Federal Open Market Committee meeting. He said current monetary policy does not show evidence of being restrictive and argued that beginning gradual increases now is preferable to risking a situation where inflation becomes entrenched and aggressive rate hikes become necessary later.
