According to the UK Competition Appeal Tribunal, on August 5 (Wednesday), the court dismissed Google's bid to block a collective action brought by approximately 880,000 British businesses, allowing the lawsuit to proceed. The claim seeks up to £5 billion (approximately $6.7 billion) in damages, alleging the tech company charged excessive advertising fees by leveraging its dominant position in mobile operating systems, app distribution, and search advertising markets. Eligible British enterprises will automatically be included in the plaintiff group unless they opt out.
