South Korea's Stock Market Sees 7x Surge in End-of-Day Price Volatility Warnings, May–July

According to Korea Exchange data, 29 cases of stocks were designated as investment caution items due to end-of-day price volatility (종가급변) during May–July 2026, marking a 7.25x increase from 4 cases in the same period last year. Month-on-month designations rose from 6 in May to 10 in June and 13 in July. The surge reflects broader market instability; the KOSPI 200 volatility index (VKOSPI) averaged 80.22 for the three-month period, 3.6x higher than the prior-year average of 22.15. Notable companies including Samsung Card, Doosan, and Hyundai Engineering were included in the caution list, signaling heightened investor concern over price formation at market close.
