U.S. Appeals Court Reverses Ban, Perplexity Shopping Agent Returns to Amazon

AMZN-1.02%

According to the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, Perplexity's AI shopping agent has returned to Amazon after the court reversed a prior ban. The court determined that users accessing Amazon through Perplexity's agent bear legal responsibility for their actions, making it difficult to establish a violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

The ruling focuses on liability attribution, holding that Perplexity itself cannot be held accountable under federal law for how users deploy the shopping agent on the platform.
