Japan's FSA Upgrades Crypto Oversight with New Dedicated Division on August 5

According to Odaily, Japan's Financial Services Agency (FSA) established a new "Cryptocurrency Assets and Stablecoin Division" on August 5, effective August 7. The restructuring elevates crypto asset oversight from a sub-department level to an independent division, consolidating previous responsibilities from the Risk Analysis and Overview Division and related offices under the new Asset Management and Insurance Supervision Bureau.

The new division will oversee exchange regulation through three sub-units: the Cryptocurrency Assets Monitoring Office, Innovation Promotion Office, and Digital Payment Planning Office. The FSA stated the reorganization responds to evolving challenges in financial digitalization and regulatory requirements.
