Russian citizens are concerned about whether pensions will be paid in the form of cryptocurrency; official response currently does not address this.

PANews January 11 News, according to Russian media Rossiyskaya Gazeta, the state-owned institution responsible for managing Russia's public pension system, the Russian Social Security Fund, stated that inquiries about whether pensions can be paid with cryptocurrencies have become one of the most frequent non-standard requests it has received. In 2025, its unified contact center handled approximately 37 million inquiries, with many asking whether they can receive their pensions in cryptocurrencies and whether mining income will be included in social welfare calculations. However, the official response states that currently all pensions and social benefits are paid only in rubles, and tax issues related to crypto assets (including mining income) are to be determined and handled by the Federal Tax Service of Russia.
