Jin10 data reported on May 9 that Germany's new Chancellor Merz stated that Europe supports Trump's plan for a 30-day ceasefire between Russia and Ukraine. He added that if Moscow does not take peace negotiations seriously, both the EU and the US are prepared to increase sanctions pressure on Moscow. Merz also mentioned that the EU and the US will continue to support Ukraine, increasing aid when necessary, although he stated that Germany continues to oppose funding defense spending through joint EU debt. "We call on Russia to finally embark on the path of genuine peace negotiations," he stated. "If it does not do so, we will not hesitate to increase sanctions pressure together with our European partners and the US."
