The editor-in-chief of The Economist: The United States' tariff policy will backfire.

Gate News bot message, recently, the editor-in-chief of the British magazine The Economist, Zanny Beddoes, expressed the view that the significant increase in tariffs by the United States is essentially "self-destruction." He pointed out that the new U.S. government is implementing a revolutionary plan aimed at reshaping foreign policy, changing the economic system, and launching attacks on independent agencies, law firms, universities, and the chairman of The Federal Reserve (FED).

Beidos stated that this policy not only causes significant geopolitical shocks, but more importantly, the economic shock manifested in the form of tariffs will result in serious self-harm. He emphasized that almost all economists believe that significantly raising tariffs is a self-defeating practice, which is essentially a tax on consumers and may lead to economic recession, undermining investors' confidence in the dollar.
