When trading on the Gate Event Market, the total transaction fee consists of two parts: the Gate platform service fee and the Polymarket protocol fee. This document explains the fee structure and calculation methods. Polymarket’s specific fee parameters and applicable markets may change, so please refer to their official documentation and the actual transaction page for the latest information.

1. Gate Platform Service Fee

Gate charges a platform service fee for trades in the Event Market section, regardless of market type:

  • Maker (placing an order) fee: 0.8%
  • Taker (filling an order) fee: 0.8%

The Gate platform service fee is calculated based on the actual transaction amount:
Gate Platform Service Fee = Transaction Amount × 0.8%

2. Polymarket Protocol Fee

The Polymarket protocol fee is calculated by the underlying protocol when orders are matched.

  • Maker (order placer): Polymarket does not charge a protocol fee.
  • Taker (order filler): Some markets will charge a protocol fee, with actual parameters depending on the market type and transaction price.
  • Some markets may waive the protocol fee; please refer to the actual market configuration for details.

The official Polymarket calculation formula is:
Protocol Fee = C × feeRate × p × (1 - p)

Where:

  • C: Number of shares transacted
  • p: Transaction price per share, ranging from 0 to 1
  • feeRate: The fee rate parameter set by Polymarket for the respective market

For specific parameters, applicable market types, and official examples, please see the Polymarket official fee documentation.

3. How Price Affects the Polymarket Protocol Fee

To understand how price impacts the protocol fee, you need to distinguish between different comparison bases:

  • For the same number of shares: The closer the price is to $0.50, the higher the protocol fee; the closer the price is to $0 or $1, the lower the fee.
  • For the same transaction amount: The higher the price, the lower the protocol fee; the lower the price, the higher the fee.

This is because when the transaction amount is fixed, the number of shares changes with the price. If the transaction amount is V = C × p, substituting into the official formula gives:
Protocol Fee = V × feeRate × (1 - p)
Therefore, when the transaction amount and market feeRate parameter are the same, the protocol fee decreases as the transaction price increases.

4. Total Transaction Fee

Total Transaction Fee = Gate Platform Service Fee + Polymarket Protocol Fee

  • Maker (placing an order) transactions: Usually only the Gate platform service fee is charged.
  • Taker (filling an order) transactions: The Gate platform service fee is charged; if the corresponding market has enabled the Polymarket protocol fee, the protocol fee will also be charged.

5. Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Why can’t I just multiply Polymarket’s feeRate by the transaction amount?

Because feeRate is only one parameter in Polymarket’s fee formula. The actual protocol fee also depends on the transaction price and the number of shares. Please use the official formula and refer to the actual transaction results.

Q: Why does the official chart show the highest fee when the price is near 0.50?

Polymarket’s official chart uses a “fixed number of shares” as the comparison basis. For the same number of shares, the fee does peak when the price is around $0.50. This does not contradict the fact that “for a fixed transaction amount, the higher the price, the lower the fee.”

Q: Where can I find Polymarket’s current specific fee rates?

Please refer to the Polymarket official fee documentation. Polymarket’s applicable markets and fee parameters may be updated, so always refer to the latest official information.
