Brazil announces preventive freezing of crypto transfers over $10k for 24 hours, effective from 2027
Brazil’s central bank (BCB) announced on August 9 that it will require virtual asset service providers (VASPs) to impose preventive freezes of up to 24 hours on certain transfers to foreign platforms or self-custody wallets to prevent cryptocurrency scams. The new rules apply to transfers exceeding $10k per transaction, or when a customer’s total transactions for the day exceed $10k. The rules will take effect on January 1, 2027.
