Common Stock Questions | Gate
Below are frequently asked questions for Gate Stock users. If there is any discrepancy between your account page and a specific announcement, please refer to the page and announcement for the most accurate information.
1. Product & Eligibility
What is Gate Stock?
Gate Stock is Gate’s stock and ETF trading service offered under TradFi. You can buy, hold, and sell stocks and ETFs using USDT directly on the platform—no need to open a traditional brokerage account.
What assets can I trade?
Refer to the Gate Stock listing page for the available assets, which cover stocks and ETFs from major exchanges such as NASDAQ, NYSE, HKEX, and KRX.
Who can use Gate Stock?
Users must meet Gate’s identity verification (KYC) and regional eligibility requirements for TradFi services.
Am I actually buying stocks?
You manage your trades and holdings within your Gate stock account and enjoy the economic benefits associated with your positions (such as cash dividends, stock splits, etc., handled according to platform rules).
You are not registered as a shareholder in the U.S. stock registration system under your personal name.
Is short selling or margin buying supported?
Not supported. Only buy and sell (close positions) are available; short selling and margin buying are not supported.
2. Funds & Accounts
What currency is used for trading?
Trading and settlement use USDT. You need to transfer USDT to your stock account before buying.
How do I transfer funds to the stock account?
You can transfer USDT from your spot account or unified account to your stock account, and transfer back from the stock account as needed.
Are the stock account and CFD account the same funds?
No. Stocks use a dedicated stock account, which is separate from the TradFi CFD account. Funds must be transferred individually.
Can I view market data without transferring USDT?
You can browse market data; however, you cannot place valid buy orders until you transfer USDT into your stock account.
What happens if my balance is insufficient?
If your available balance is insufficient when submitting a buy order, the order cannot be submitted and the page will display a “funds insufficient” message.
3. Trading & Orders
How do I access Gate Stock?
Common entry points: TradFi → Stock, market selector, homepage market data, asset search, etc.
What order types are supported?
Currently supports market orders and limit orders.
Take profit/stop loss orders are not available at this time.
Can I modify or cancel orders?
Limit orders support modification and cancellation; pending market orders support cancellation.
How do I sell existing positions?
Select close position or market close all (market sell logic) in the positions section, or use the sell option on the trading chart page.
Why can’t I click the buy/sell button?
The most common reason is market closure. Some stocks only allow new orders during regular trading hours; during closed hours, buttons are disabled, but you can still view market data and positions.
Why is my order pending and not filled?
- Market orders: May be partially filled or pending due to incomplete execution during trading hours. Refer to order details.
- Limit orders: Buy orders with a price lower than the best ask, or sell orders with a price higher than the best bid, will not be matched.
Why is the execution price different from the “latest price” shown?
The latest price is used for displaying market data and calculating P&L.
Stock execution prices are determined by a combination of real-time market conditions, order book quotes, and exchange rate costs. All orders are settled based on the actual execution record.
Are pre-market and after-hours orders supported?
Only stocks that allow pre-market, after-hours, or 24-hour trading support placing new orders during those periods. Market orders placed during closed hours will automatically activate at market open.
4. Trading Hours
When can I trade?
Some stocks only allow new buy, sell, close, and market orders during regular trading hours. For exact open/close times, refer to the displayed page. Trading during low liquidity periods may result in significant slippage—please trade with caution.
What can I do during market closure?
You can view market data, positions, orders, and trading records; new orders cannot be placed. The market page typically displays “Market Closed”.
5. P&L & Pricing
How are position P&L and daily P&L calculated?
- Position P&L ≈ ( Latest Price − Position Cost Price ) × Number of Shares Held
- Daily P&L is the floating P&L for your current positions for the day
What’s the difference between the two cost price options?
In Settings → Trading Settings, you can choose:
| Option |
Difference (Brief) |
|---|---|
| Average Cost Price |
Weighted average on buys; after selling, remaining per-share cost does not change |
| Diluted Cost Price |
Weighted on buys; after selling, remaining per-share cost recalculated based on net investment |
Depending on your choice, position P&L figures may vary. Please refer to your current settings.
How can I select the latest price?
In Settings → Trading Settings, you can choose:
| Option |
Description |
|---|---|
| Intraday Latest Price |
P&L calculated using the latest price during regular trading hours |
| Pre-market/After-hours Latest Price |
Reflects pre-market/after-hours prices when available; does not mean you can place orders during those times |
Why is my P&L different from other apps?
Common reasons: cost price calculation (average/diluted), latest price source (intraday/pre-market/after-hours), whether fees are included, display currency units, etc. Please refer to the figures in your Gate Stock account and your settings.
What is net asset value?
Net asset value = position market value + available balance in your stock account (changes with market prices).
6. Corporate Actions
What are corporate actions?
Corporate actions are arrangements by listed companies regarding shareholder rights, such as dividends, stock splits, mergers, acquisitions, etc. Gate Stock focuses on handling economic benefits related to your positions.
Do I need to take action for corporate events?
Most of the time, no. The platform automatically handles events according to announcements and rules, with results shown in positions, transaction history, etc.
How are cash dividends credited?
Cash benefits are usually credited to your stock account transaction history in USDT form (such as dividend payouts; refer to page wording). The timing and amount are based on transaction history and announcements.
Are dividends paid in USD or USDT?
In Gate Stock accounts, dividends are typically reflected as USDT in your transaction history.
Why does my cost price change after a stock split or reverse split?
Share count and per-share price are adjusted according to the corporate action ratio; cost price is updated based on platform rules and your selected average/diluted method.
Where can I find corporate action rules?
Specific events are determined by Gate’s announcements for the asset and your account’s actual results.
7. Fees
Are trading fees charged?
Yes. Fees are calculated based on the transaction amount and the platform’s current fee rules. Refer to execution records and transaction history for details.
How are VIP fee rates calculated?
VIP tiers can be found on the “My Fee Rate” page.
Where are fees deducted from?
Fees are typically deducted from your stock account’s available balance at the time of execution, or reflected in settlement according to platform rules. Refer to transaction history.

What’s the difference between Gate Stock and “stock tokens”?
- Stock tokens are asset-backed tokens issued by RWA tokenization companies, typically with a limited selection (hundreds), and liquidity depends on token issuance volume.
- Gate US stocks involve trading actual US stock assets, collaborating with compliant US brokers like Alpaca via the Omnibus model. Trades occur on major US stock and ETF exchanges, supporting over 10,000+ stocks and ETFs (expanding over time), far exceeding the asset range supported by RWA tokens.
- During regular trading hours, except for large orders, users get direct access to deep liquidity and the National Best Bid and Offer (NBBO) from major US stock exchanges, greatly reducing liquidity and slippage issues found with stock tokens.

Stock homepage: Overview of net asset value, position market value, daily P&L, etc.
What should I do if I have questions about a specific trade or dividend?
Please prepare time, asset, order or transaction details, check for any related announcements, and contact customer support. The amount and status of individual trades are determined by execution records and transaction history.
