Recently, I saw again the kind of cross-chain bridge being hacked, and I felt a tightness in my chest...

Now, cross-chain is really like chopping vegetables, the knife isn't dull but you still have to do it slowly.
Many bridges, to put it simply, are just three things: multi-signature, oracles, and "waiting for confirmation".
Multi-signature isn't safer the more people there are; the key is whether those keys are in the same wallet or not.
Oracles are even more mysterious; an occasional abnormal quote can cause the entire chain to be salty, just like smelling the wrong salt.
As for "waiting for confirmation", I used to find it annoying, but now I see it as a consensus moat:
I'd rather wait an extra 2 minutes, or even try transferring 0.003 coins first to see if it arrives, before doing large transactions.
Anyway, when I do L2, I also watch the funding rate; the worst isn't slowness, but the unexpected speed that leaves you no time to react.
Stop-loss is faith, but when it comes to cross-chain, don't let yourself get into the kitchen and drop the pot first.
