Ripple USD (RLUSD) Price

RLUSD is the ticker for Ripple USD, a stablecoin issued within the Ripple ecosystem and designed to be denominated in U.S. dollars. It is intended as a payment and settlement tool: users can transfer tokens representing dollar value on supported ledgers, rather than treat it as an asset designed to profit from appreciation or yield. RLUSD is issued by Standard Custody & Trust Company LLC; its records may exist on Ethereum, XRPL, and other networks supported by Ripple in the future. Holding RLUSD does not mean holding XRP, nor does it mean directly holding a particular dollar in the issuer's reserves.

RLUSD's relationship to the U.S. dollar is based on the issuer's reserve and redemption arrangements: the issuer states that RLUSD is backed by assets such as cash, cash equivalents, and U.S. Treasury securities, and allows eligible customers to redeem 1 RLUSD for 1 U.S. dollar. The redemption channel gives eligible customers a route to exchange tokens back for dollars when the token price deviates from 1 U.S. dollar, making it part of the peg design. This does not mean execution at 1 U.S. dollar is guaranteed in every market, region, or at every time. Secondary-market prices may also be affected by trading liquidity, service availability, regional restrictions, and confidence in the issuer and reserve arrangements; direct redemption is also subject to conditions and restrictions in customer agreements.

RLUSD is a multichain stablecoin, but the token's technical form differs across chains. It is issued natively on the XRP Ledger (XRPL) as an issued asset of that ledger; on Ethereum, Base, INK, Optimism, Unichain, and the XRPL EVM sidechain, it exists as an ERC-20 token. This difference determines operational requirements: XRPL requires identifying the issuer and ledger asset, while EVM networks require verifying the chain ID and the ERC-20 contract address on that chain. Similar address formats do not prove that assets are on the same network, and sending assets to a mismatched network or address may result in unrecoverable loss.

RLUSD and XRP are not the same type of asset. XRP is the native digital asset of the XRP Ledger, and its market price is formed by supply and demand in trading markets; RLUSD is a stablecoin issued by its issuer, designed to maintain a value close to the U.S. dollar and supported by reserve and redemption arrangements for that purpose. Both can be transferred on the XRPL, but this does not change their asset relationship: holding RLUSD does not automatically provide price exposure to XRP, and holding XRP does not constitute a redemption claim for RLUSD. The choice of asset should first distinguish whether the need is for the chain's native asset or a dollar-denominated stablecoin.

Only customers who meet Ripple's customer agreement and applicable conditions can directly request redemption of RLUSD for U.S. dollars from Ripple; the terms state an exchange rate of 1 U.S. dollar for each 1 RLUSD. Selling RLUSD in a market that supports it and redeeming directly with the issuer are two different routes. Before direct redemption, customer identity, jurisdiction, agreement conditions, and operational restrictions all affect whether it can be processed. Therefore, “the token can be redeemed by customers” cannot be extended to mean “every on-chain holder can directly exchange it for U.S. dollars with the issuer at any time.”

RLUSD does not have a fixed supply cap. New issuance generally corresponds to the process by which customers obtain new RLUSD; when eligible customers return RLUSD to the issuer for U.S. dollar redemption, tokens pending redemption exit the corresponding circulation arrangement. Therefore, the number of tokens changes with issuance and redemption demand. Issuance, the balance on a particular network, and the quantity available for market trading should be distinguished. Technical deployment across networks should not simply be added together as new economic backing; determining the quantity at a given time also requires using issuer or official network materials and specifying the network and time basis for the count.

Before receiving RLUSD on the XRPL, the receiving account generally needs to establish a trust line for the issuer. A trust line is an account setting that declares on the ledger a willingness to hold assets from a particular issuer; without it, issued assets cannot be credited to that account directly in the way XRP can. When establishing a trust line, the issuer's identity should also be confirmed and an appropriate holding limit set. This prerequisite applies only to XRPL's issued-asset mechanism; when receiving ERC-20 RLUSD on an EVM network, the key requirements are a wallet compatible with that network, the correct token contract, and sufficient native assets to pay that chain's transaction fees.

The official documentation distinguishes each supported chain's mainnet from its testnet. Mainnet RLUSD carries real value and is backed one-to-one by reserves; testnets are used by developers to test integrations and, although they can simulate functionality, their RLUSD has no real value and is not backed by real reserves. Therefore, testnet addresses, tokens, and transaction records cannot be used for payments, settlement, or determining mainnet holdings. Before receiving tokens, first confirm whether the wallet is connected to mainnet or testnet, then verify the issuer account or contract address for that environment.

The function of RLUSD reserves is to support U.S. dollar redemption arrangements for eligible customers. Reserve categories listed in Ripple's terms include short-term U.S. Treasury bills, overnight repurchase agreements backed by U.S. Treasury securities, government money market funds, and deposit accounts; together, these categories support the stablecoin's liquidity and asset-backing arrangements. Reserve categories do not mean that on-chain holders have direct ownership of a particular underlying security. Users hold RLUSD tokens, and whether and how they can exercise a U.S. dollar redemption claim remains subject to the applicable customer agreement and conditions.

RLUSD may be used in scenarios such as payments, trading, treasury management, collateral, and tokenized-asset workflows, but actual availability depends on the jurisdiction and whether the specific service supports it. The fact that a token is transferable on a chain does not mean that all platforms, wallets, or business scenarios have integrated it. Before use, three conditions need to be confirmed: whether the service supports RLUSD, whether the selected network is correct, and whether the service is available in the user's location. These respectively determine whether it can be used, whether the asset can arrive correctly, and whether the service provider can process the operation.

When checking RLUSD, prioritize Ripple's stablecoin product page, RLUSD user terms, and official network documentation. The network documentation lists supported chains and directs users from the issuer account or token contract address for each chain to a dedicated official address page. Token addresses are information that varies by network: an address for one chain cannot be used on another chain, nor should authenticity be determined from a name or ticker. When verifying, match the network, issuer or contract address, and mainnet/testnet environment together.
