Why Did PayPal USD (PYUSD) Fall in the Last 24 Hours?

In the order-book snapshot dated 2026-10-27, the top-five-level bid-to-ask depth ratio was 333.67, but bids were concentrated near 0.9988 and asks near 1.0037. Such large orders can confine trading to a narrow range around the peg; the depth ratio alone does not indicate actual net inflows or a definite price direction. Technical indicators were broadly neutral: RSI was neutral across timeframes, MACD showed no crossovers, and the moving-average signals on the 1-hour and daily charts conflicted. The U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency encouraged community banks to apply to issue payment stablecoins, potentially broadening the range of issuers and affecting competition, though the short-term impact is limited. PYUSD lending on Aave V4 expands its DeFi use cases but does not establish a short-term price effect.

About PayPal USD (PYUSD)

PayPal USD is designed to contribute to the opportunity stablecoins offer for payments and is 100% backed by U.S. dollar deposits, short-term U.S Treasuries and similar cash equivalents. PayPal USD is redeemable 1:1 for U.S. dollars and is issued by Paxos Trust Company.

Use Cases and Features

PYUSD is designed to enable US dollar value to be used for payments and transfers on public blockchains. It is issued by Paxos on networks including Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, and Stellar, and can be used for peer-to-peer transfers, merchant or business payments, global payments, and interaction with on-chain applications. The stablecoin aims to maintain a relatively stable value against the US dollar, but the speed, cost, and availability of on-chain transfers are still affected by the network used.

Supply and Issuance Mechanism

PYUSD is issued by Paxos and is a US dollar-denominated stablecoin. Its reserves consist of equivalent-value US dollar bank deposits, US Treasury securities, and US Treasury reverse repurchase agreements, held by Paxos for the benefit of holders; the reserves do not include money market funds. Paxos discloses the reserve composition monthly and publishes an independent accountant's attestation report. Subject to the relevant terms, users may redeem with Paxos at US$1 per token.
