(MENAFN) In the early stages of the ongoing conflict with Iran, an Iranian drone strike on a US tactical operations center in Kuwait left numerous American service members seriously wounded, as stated by reports on Wednesday.

The injuries include brain trauma, burns, and shrapnel wounds, with at least one service member requiring an amputation, according to multiple sources cited in reporting. More than 30 personnel were still receiving hospital treatment as of Tuesday.

Among those injured, one was being treated at a medical facility in the US state of Texas, twelve were at a military hospital near Washington, and roughly 25 were at a regional medical center in Germany. Around 20 service members with urgent injuries—including concussions, memory loss, and traumatic brain injuries—were evacuated to Germany on a C-17 military aircraft, sources said.

Earlier, the Pentagon had reported that five service members were seriously wounded while “several others sustained minor shrapnel injuries and concussions.”

Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell stated Tuesday that 140 US troops have been injured since the start of the conflict with Iran, noting that most have returned to duty, while eight remain severely wounded and are receiving advanced medical care.
