AbbVie to Invest $380 Million in North Chicago to Further Expand Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient Manufacturing in the United States

AbbVie announced a $380 million investment to construct two new active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) manufacturing facilities at its North Chicago campus, which will create 300 jobs. These facilities, expected to be operational by 2029, will support the production of next-generation neuroscience and obesity medicines and integrate advanced manufacturing technologies with AI. This investment is part of AbbVie’s larger $100 billion commitment to U.S. R&D and capital investments over the next decade, with the goal of strengthening domestic manufacturing and reshoring API production.
